The CEO and branch manager of Tambora’s J&T Express company in Indonesia, Alexander Leo Gunawan, was found dead in his office last Wednesday in what appears to be a distressing case connected to online gambling debt.
According to Indonesian media reports, the 33-year-old Alexander Leo had fallen into significant financial difficulties after accumulating gambling debts of up to 1 billion Indonesian rupiah (approximately S$90,000) prior to his untimely demise.
Putra Pratama, the director of the Tambora Police District, stated that Alexander Leo had informed his wife of his intention to commit suicide and asked her to take care of their child during a phone call on the day of the incident.
Worried about her husband’s safety, his wife went to his office accompanied by several colleagues to search for him. After a thorough search, they discovered Alexander Leo’s lifeless body on the third floor of the office.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Alexander Leo, a father of two, chose to take his own life due to the burden of his debts and family problems.
The cause of his death has been initially attributed to respiratory failure, and his body has been sent to the hospital for an autopsy. The police investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death is still ongoing.
The tragic incident serves as a somber reminder of the potential consequences associated with excessive gambling and the toll it can take on individuals and their families. The case highlights the importance of addressing gambling addiction and providing support for those who may be struggling with financial and emotional challenges resulting from such behavior.
Authorities continue to investigate the matter to gather further details and gain a comprehensive understanding of the circumstances that led to Alexander Leo’s unfortunate demise.
