Kuala Lumpur, 16th – In a significant stride towards curbing illicit gambling activities, the police have achieved a major breakthrough by dismantling 1,968 illegal gambling centers throughout the country. A total of 2,349 local and foreign men and women were apprehended to aid ongoing investigations. Alongside the arrests, authorities confiscated over 250,000 ringgits in cash and more than 5,000 pieces of Malaysia online casino equipment.
As stated in a Facebook post by the Police Criminal Investigation Team, the nationwide operation, named “Operation Dice,” was carried out by the Anti-Indemnity, Gambling, and Secret Society Suppression Team (D7) from April 1st to May 13th this year. The operation successfully eradicated 1,968 illegal gambling centers and led to the arrest of 2,349 individuals for further investigation.
Among those apprehended were 1,941 men and 408 women, including both foreigners and locals. Authorities suspect that these individuals were involved in the administration, staffing, and patronage of the gambling establishments.
The Facebook post further detailed that during the operation, the police seized a staggering RM250,444 in cash and confiscated 5,487 Malaysia online casino devices, such as routers, modems, computers, and tablets.
According to the post, a total of 2,115 cases have been recorded, citing various offenses related to gambling, and investigations are currently underway. Of these cases, charges have been filed against 635 individuals, resulting in a prosecution rate of 30.2%.
Moreover, the issue of covering up gambling activities has exposed a grave level of corruption. The advocacy organization, IKRAM, has called for intensified law enforcement efforts to rectify the political cover-up of Malaysia online casino.
Zaina Adnan, the chairman of the Kuala Lumpur chapter of the organization, emphasized the necessity for authorities to persistently investigate and identify individuals involved in the concealment of Malaysia online casino activities.
In an interview with China Press, Adnan stated that if the Ministry of Home Affairs was aware of this issue, it should gather evidence and take appropriate action against those implicated, regardless of whether they are politicians, corporations, or any other entities.
“The cover-up of gambling activities demonstrates the presence of corruption and abuse of power, which is an escalating concern,” Adnan asserted.
Recently, Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasudian addressed the House of Commons, shedding light on the growing prevalence of Malaysia online casino and revealing the existence of “political cover” behind its rampant expansion. As the severity of the issue becomes more apparent, swift and resolute action is imperative to combat this deep-rooted problem.
