The Japanese government has given the green light to the country’s first legal casino, different from online casino, which is set to open in Osaka in 2029. The decision comes after years of discussion and debate, with the aim of attracting both domestic and foreign tourists to the area.
The integrated resort (IR) in Osaka will feature casinos, conference centers, hotels, restaurants, and entertainment venues, offering visitors a variety of attractions to enjoy. Nagasaki, another western city in Japan, is also planning to create an IR.
The approval of the IR has been met with criticism from some quarters, with concerns that it could worsen the country’s existing gambling problem. However, supporters of the project believe it will contribute to the development of the Osaka region and showcase the charm of Japan to the world.
Tetsuo Saito, Japan’s Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, confirmed that the decision to approve the casino was made following a thorough review from multiple perspectives. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida welcomed the move, noting that the integrated resort would be an essential tourism base that would help attract more tourists to Japan.
The Osaka IR will be the first case approved by the central government in Japan, and it is scheduled to open in late 2029. The precise opening date will be announced closer to the time.
