(Kota Kinabalu, 4th) A police raid on an oil palm plantation in Karen State, Kota Kinabalu resulted in the apprehension of a group of individuals engaged in illegal cockfight gambling. Twelve people, with the youngest being only 17 years old, were arrested in the operation.
According to Assistant Superintendent Jasmine Husin, the director of Tawau Police District, the police acted on intelligence and assembled a team to conduct the operation at 5:00 pm on the 1st of this month. Upon arrival, the individuals attempted to flee but were swiftly apprehended.
The police detained a total of 12 individuals, including three women, whose ages ranged from 17 to 71. The operation also led to the seizure of seven fighting cocks, gambling paraphernalia, and RM1,210 in cash.
Assistant Superintendent Jasmine Husin highlighted that the location in question has been known for hosting various illicit gambling activities. All suspects are currently under detention as part of the ongoing investigation.
