(Singapore) – A void deck in Block 119 Hougang Avenue 1 has been turned into a “mini casino” by a group of gamblers. According to Shin Min Daily News, the group gathers every weekend to bet on horse races in Hong Kong, Malaysia, South Africa, and more. Despite there being no local horse races on Sunday, several middle-aged men were seen congregating to bet on the races. The group was also reported to have “bookies” present.
The Shin Min reporter who visited the scene saw over 10 men and women sitting and standing at the block to watch live broadcasts of the races. A woman in a blue shirt was even seen receiving $50 from someone and recording it down with a pen and a piece of paper.
Residents are reportedly concerned about the negative influence the “mini casino” might have on children, with the group often present from morning to night. While the group is usually not noisy, some of them do smoke, and there are beer bottles, mugs, and a bottle of spirits worth more than $100 on the table, with an ice bucket next to it.
This development has sparked concern among residents and has prompted them to call for action to be taken against these illegal gambling activities.
